Julian Garthwaite has extensive experience in the field of cybersecurity and network security. Julian currently holds the position of Global Security Operations Manager at Woven by Toyota since June 2022. Prior to this, they worked at Westpac as the Head of Cyber Detect & Respond from February 2021 to June 2022.
Julian's early experience includes working at Spark New Zealand, where they held various roles. From October 2019 to February 2021, they worked as the Cyber Defence Operations Lead, responsible for leading and mentoring a 46-person Security Operations/Incident Response team. Julian also played a key role in developing training and retention plans, as well as leading security operations team building and culture initiatives.
Before this, Julian served as a Security Architect at Spark New Zealand from February 2019 to October 2019, where they focused on designing and implementing security technologies to enhance the company's security visibility and maturity. Julian also worked as a Security Service Architect at Spark Security Product Team from February 2018 to February 2019, where they researched, designed, and developed security services for government and commercial customers.
Prior to their roles at Spark New Zealand, Julian worked as a Senior Security Incident Responder from November 2014 to February 2018. Julian also gained experience as a Senior Security Analyst from February 2013 to November 2014, and as a Security Analyst from March 2012 to February 2013.
Julian started their career as a Network and Security Engineer at Colmar Brunton in January 2011 and worked there until March 2012. Before that, they worked as a Web Developer & Graphic Designer at NetBase Technologies from April 2009 to January 2011, and as a Network Technician at ComZone from January 2009 to January 2011.
Julian Garthwaite's education history begins with their attendance at Dunstan High School from 2000 to 2004, where they completed their NCEA level 3. Later, they pursued a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology at the Southern Institute of Technology, which they finished in 2011.
