Chief Terry Nichols

Chief Terry Nichols (Ret.) has a comprehensive work experience in law enforcement and public safety. Their most recent role was as the Director of Business Development and Grant Management at WRAP, where they focused on innovative training and tools to enhance public safety without the use of force. Prior to that, Chief Nichols served as the Chief of Police for the City of Seguin, where they implemented inclusive servant leadership and successfully led the department through the re-accreditation process. Chief Terry also served as the Chief of Police for the City of Brownwood, Texas, overseeing the operations of the municipal police agency and serving as the primary Public Information Officer.

Chief Nichols has played a significant role in training and curriculum development in law enforcement. At Texas State University-ALERRT, they served as the Director of Curriculum Development, managing the development and standardization of training curriculum for law enforcement, fire, and EMS personnel. Chief Terry also served as the Assistant Director for the ALERRT program, leading and managing daily operations and growing the national grant-funded active shooter training program.

Before their time at Texas State University, Chief Nichols had a distinguished career with the San Marcos Police Department. Chief Terry retired as a Commander after serving 21 years and held leadership positions in Patrol, Criminal Investigations, and Training divisions. Chief Terry was also an Adjunct Instructor during this time. Additionally, Chief Nichols served as a SWAT Team Operator and Commander for the Hays County SWAT Team, handling critical incidents and serving on the board of the Texas Tactical Police Officers Association.

Chief Terry Nichols (Ret.) obtained their Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Texas State University, spanning from 1987 to 1991. Chief Terry further pursued higher education and completed a Master of Science degree in Administration of Criminal Justice from the same university between 1993 and 1997.
