Teaching Writer at Writers in the Schools

Amy C. Evans is an award-winning artist, writer, and documentarian based in Houston, Texas, with extensive experience in education and cultural documentation. Since September 2014, Amy has been self-employed, creating impactful works in the arts and writing fields. As a Teaching Writer for WRITERS IN THE SCHOOLS since September 2017, Amy teaches writing and digital expression to K-12 students and educators throughout Houston Independent School District. Previous roles include serving as the Customs Editor for Mississippi Folklife from 2014 to 2019 and as the Lead Oral Historian for the Southern Foodways Alliance from 2002 to 2014, where Amy developed a multi-media archive focused on the diverse food cultures of the American South. Amy holds a Master’s degree in Southern Studies from the University of Mississippi and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Printmaking from the Maryland Institute College of Art.
