A Northern Virginia native who grew up in Alexandria, Virginia, Matt is thrilled to be back home in the D.C. metro area covering news for a station he grew up listening to. Keeping the community he calls home informed about the day’s events is something he considers an honor and privilege.
Before joining WTOP as a freelance reporter/anchor in March 2023, Matt spent five years on-air in television news, first in Augusta, Georgia (home of the Masters) as a reporter, and then in Greenville, South Carolina, where he was both an anchor and reporter.
A graduate of the Newhouse School at Syracuse University, Matt is a huge Orange fan, and an avid watcher of basketball. He played for his high school hoops team, the Thomas A. Edison Eagles in Alexandria, and was also a member of the varsity tennis and cross-country teams.
In addition to his work in the field of news, Matt does other freelance work in film, and is a bit of a cinephile. He’s a part of the Film at Lincoln Center’s New Wave membership program for the historic NYC theater, and tries to attend screenings and festivals as often as he can.
