Alexander Muhr

Machine Learning Software Engineer at X, the moonshot factory

Alexander Muhr has a diverse work experience starting from 2010. Alexander worked as a Math and Physics Tutor at UO Teaching and Learning Center from January 2010 to June 2012. Alexander then interned as a Laser and Optics Engineering Intern at ESI from October 2012 to June 2013.

From November 2013 to March 2016, Alexander worked as an Optical Applications Engineer at Element Six, where they engaged customers' engineering departments and drove sales. Alexander then transitioned to the role of Senior Applications Engineer from March 2016 to December 2018, where they designed new products and built models to predict production costs and delivery time.

In January 2019, Alexander became the Product Manager CVD Optical at Element Six, leading the business development and strategy of the company's optical product line. Alexander generated sales leads by pitching diamond laser technology and introduced anti-reflection coated diamond prisms. Alexander ended their tenure with Element Six in April 2019.

In May 2019, Alexander attended the Metis immersive 12-week data science training program, honing their skills in machine learning, statistical modeling, and software development. Alexander developed a Natural Language Movie Recommender application that leverages inferred preferences to suggest movies.

From November 2019 to April 2020, Alexander served as a Senior Analyst at Skillz Inc., where they scaled user acquisition efficiently for the game Blackout Blitz, bringing it into the top 20 free games and top 50 apps overall on the iOS Store.

Alexander then joined The Center for New Data, a nonprofit data organization, as a Data Scientist from August 2020 to March 2021. Alexander built analyses, visualizations, and ETLs using Snowflake, Looker, Airflow, and Jupyter for a nationwide study on voter wait and travel times, aiming to make voting more accessible.

Since March 2021, Alexander has been working at X, the moonshot factory, where they initially started as a Senior Data Analyst within the Google X internal incubator. Alexander worked extensively with various GCP products to create a comprehensive data ecosystem for asset tracking devices. Alexander conducted machine learning research and deployed predictive models to production. In March 2023, they transitioned to the role of Machine Learning Software Engineer.

Alexander Muhr completed their education in physics and mathematics. Alexander received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Oregon, Robert D. Clark Honors College, where they studied from 2008 to 2012. Following that, they pursued a Master of Science degree in Physics at the University of Oregon from 2012 to 2013.

In addition to their formal education, Alexander Muhr has obtained several certifications related to data engineering, big data, machine learning, and analytics. Alexander completed the "Data Engineering, Big Data, and Machine Learning on GCP Specialization" and "Smart Analytics, Machine Learning, and AI on GCP" certifications from Coursera in August 2020. In the same month, they also obtained the "Spark and Python for Big Data with Pyspark" certification from Udemy.

Earlier in July 2020, they completed the "Building Batch Data Pipelines on GCP" and "Building Resilient Streaming Analytics Systems on GCP" certifications from Coursera. Other certifications include "Complete Guide to TensorFlow for Deep Learning with Python" from Udemy in June 2020, "Google Cloud Platform Big Data and Machine Learning Fundamentals" from Coursera in June 2020, "Modernizing Data Lakes and Data Warehouses with GCP" from Coursera in June 2020, "The Complete Tableau Bootcamp for Data Visualization" from Udemy in June 2020, "Machine Learning" from Coursera in June 2019, "Master SQL for Data Science" from Udemy in January 2019, and "The Python Mega Course" from Udemy in October 2018.

This comprehensive educational background and the diverse range of certifications suggest that Alexander Muhr has a strong foundation in physics, mathematics, data engineering, big data analysis, machine learning, and analytics.
