Jeff Orth

Computational Biologist at X, the moonshot factory

Jeff Orth's work experience begins in 2005 when they worked as an Undergraduate Research Intern at the Institute for Systems Biology. Jeff then moved on to work as an Undergraduate Student Researcher at the University of Washington from 2005 to 2006. In 2006, they became a Graduate Student Researcher at UC San Diego, where they expanded and updated a widely used genome-scale metabolic model of Escherichia coli. From 2010 to 2010, they worked as a Visiting Graduate Student Researcher at Keio University, focusing on protein expression and purification, in vitro enzyme assays, and LC-MS quantification of in vitro reaction metabolites. In 2012, they joined Intrexon Corporation as a Scientist, eventually becoming a Senior Scientist in Data Science and Computational Biology. In this role, they were involved in the construction and maintenance of a highly curated universal database, the development of an Automodel algorithm, and the reconstruction of genome-scale biochemical network models for various biotechnology applications. Jeff's most recent role is as a Computational Biologist at X, the moonshot factory, where they have been working since 2019.

Jeff Orth obtained a B.S. degree in Bioengineering from the University of Washington, where they studied from 2002 to 2006. Jeff then pursued further education and completed their Ph.D. in Bioengineering at UC San Diego from 2006 to 2012.
