Tongtong Zhao

Principal Scientist at Xap Therapeutics

Tongtong Zhao has a diverse work experience spanning from 2006 to the present. Currently, they hold the position of Principal Scientist at Xap Therapeutics since June 2021. Prior to this role, they served as a Senior Scientist at the same company from January to May 2021 and as a Scientist II from July to December 2020. Before joining Xap Therapeutics, Tongtong worked as a Postdoctoral Associate at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard from September 2017 to July 2020. They also gained valuable research experience as a Postdoctoral Fellow in Neurobiology at Harvard Medical School from September 2012 to August 2017. During this time, they conducted research on motor neuron function and the role of mitochondria in neuronal function. Additionally, Tongtong mentored students during their tenure at Harvard Medical School. Prior to that, they served as a Part-time Intern at MGH Research Institute Strategic Alliance Initiative from October 2016 to January 2017. Tongtong's early career included a Ph.D. at the University of Cambridge, Gurdon Institute from October 2007 to May 2012, where they also worked as a Teaching Fellow from October 2008 to May 2010, gaining experience in teaching and supervision. They also had a summer intern experience at QIAGEN Leipzig GmbH in August and September 2006.

Tongtong Zhao has a strong educational background in genetics and molecular biology. They earned a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Molecular Biology from Heidelberg University, where they studied from 2004 to 2007. Subsequently, they pursued further education at the University of Cambridge, from 2007 to 2012, obtaining a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Genetics. Prior to attending the University of Cambridge, Tongtong Zhao spent a year at Imperial College London, although the specific degree obtained during this time is not provided.
