William Vreeland

Chief Risk Officer at Xapo

William Vreeland is currently the Chief Risk Officer at Xapo. Prior to this, they were with American International Group, Inc. from January 2001 to December 2014, where they served as Associate General Counsel, Global Legal, Compliance and Regulatory Affairs. In this role, they led the development of an enterprise-wide policies and procedures governance framework to comply with heightened Federal Reserve regulatory, risk and control requirements. William also designed a framework for managing policies and procedures, chaired the global policy advisory group, developed the company’s policy implementation ‘playbook’, and briefed the Federal Reserve on implementation progress.

Before their time at American International Group, Inc., Mr. Vreeland was a Senior Associate in the Corporate Department at Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson from January 1996 to December 2001. William began their career as a Junior Associate in the Corporate Department at Hughes Hubbard & Reed LLP from January 1994 to December 1996.

William Vreeland attended Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law, where they earned their Doctor of Law (JD). William then pursued a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in finance at NYU Stern School of Business. Finally, they completed their undergraduate education at SUNY Oneonta, earning a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in economics.
