J.L. Novak is the current Chief Compliance Officer and Deputy General Counsel at Yahoo!. Prior to this role, Novak served as the Vice President and Deputy General Counsel for Verizon Media from June 2017 to September 2021. In this role, Novak managed the global ethics and compliance function for Verizon Media, as well as Verizon's International Ethics Advisors program.

Before joining Verizon, Novak worked as a partner at McGuireWoods LLP from December 2002 to December 2003. During their time at McGuireWoods, Novak was lead counsel on more than two dozen successful trials, including the defense of trademark and patent claims, the defense of claims regarding construction of stock option agreements, and the successful pro bono prosecution of a suit to clear title. Novak also has experience in project management, having managed SEC/DOJ securities investigation collections from/interviews of 750+ custodians and 100+ lawyer document reviews.
