Luca Muscariello

Technical Project Lead at Yocto Project

Luca Muscariello has extensive work experience in the field of networking and communication sciences. Luca began their career as a Research Collaborator at CNIT, where they were involved in the TANGO project. Luca then worked as a Visiting PhD Student at France Telecom R&D and VTT Technical Research Center of Finland.

In 2006, Luca joined France Télécom R&D as a Post Doc, conducting research on wired and wireless networks. Luca later became a Senior Research Scientist at Orange Labs Networks, where they focused on network optimization for FTTH Gbps Speed tests and home routers QoS optimization.

Luca also worked as a Visiting Scientist at Bell Laboratories in 2011. Luca then joined IRT SystemX as a Research Associate and led the "Network Architectures" project. During their time at IRT SystemX, Luca was also a Permanent member of the Laboratory of Information, Networking, and Communication Sciences (LINCS).

In 2018, Luca joined The Linux Foundation as a Technical Project Lead, overseeing the Hybrid-ICN incubation in the Linux Foundation project Fast Data. Luca is responsible for implementing a high-speed transport and network stack out of the kernel and a portable stack for end devices.

Currently, Luca is working at Cisco as a Principal Engineer. In this role, they are involved in trend spotting web3 technologies and product incubation. Luca is also leading an internal incubation project focused on optimizing real-time applications with edge computing.

Luca Muscariello has an extensive education history in the field of telecommunications and computer science. Luca completed their PhD in Computer Science and Telecommunications from Politecnico di Torino from 2003 to 2006. Prior to that, they obtained their Laurea Degree (equivalent to a Master's degree) in Telecommunication from the same institution, studying from 1997 to 2002. Additionally, they earned a Laurea Degree in Telecommunications Engineering from Politecnico di Torino during the same period of time.

In terms of certifications, Luca Muscariello has recently obtained two certifications from The Linux Foundation. In February 2022, they became a FD.io 5-Year Community Contributor and a FD.io Committer.
