Jon Hammond Booth

Governor at York St John University

Jon Hammond Booth DL was appointed to the Governing Body on 1 August 2013. Jon Hammond’s ready smile, his wealth of experience and his ability to stimulate audiences has been a key element of his reputation and success in the media and communication world.

His initial ambition was to be an auctioneer and so trained as a surveyor; however the opportunity arose to be a DJ in Europe. The show business world beckoned and he never looked back. It was then a natural progression to move into broadcasting, initially in commercial radio and then for many enjoyable years with the BBC. During this time, Jon hosted a variety of programmes from hard news to light entertainment and interviewed a range of guests from Prime Ministers to Corporate Heads and International Celebrities to Sporting Stars. He also enjoyed the hard news side, even to the extent of being chased by the Latvian Mafia whilst filming a documentary for BBC2!

With his unique understanding and experience, it was inevitable that Jon would be lured into the corporate world as a recognised specialist in effective communication. He now advises organisations on strategy and leaders on effective message delivery. His passion, creativity, and approach to communication skills plus a wealth of knowledge support an impressive list of international clients.

Away from the ‘day job' and with a firm belief in ‘putting back’ Jon is Deputy Lieutenant of West Yorkshire, is a Vice President of Northern Ballet, and has served on the Boards of The Royal Armouries and the Frazier International History Museum. Jon also supports several charities both in strategy and 'hands-on' fund raising (estimated to now be well over £5M).
