Fergal Byrne

Fergal Byrne has a diverse work experience spanning several industries. Their most recent role was as a Senior Cloud Applications Engineer at YouView TV Limited, starting in 2021. Prior to this, they worked as a Senior AI Researcher at Ogma Intelligent Systems Corp from 2016 onwards.

Fergal joined Brenter IT Ltd in 2013 as a Machine Intelligence & Data Scientist, initially working as a general consultant and developer before focusing on developing innovative applications of Machine Intelligence and Data Science. At Brenter IT Ltd, Fergal also worked on NuPIC and developed clortex, a new Open Source implementation in Clojure.

Before their time at Brenter IT Ltd, Fergal served as the Interim CTO at CVSLearning from 2012 to 2013. In this role, they consolidated IT infrastructure, security, and functionality for StudyHub and ExamSupport. Fergal also co-developed a new business model for ExamSupport and led the development of modernized online delivery of content and support.

Additionally, Fergal has co-founded Kraken Web Limited in 2009, where they worked as a Consultant. Fergal helped organizations develop successful e-business strategies and implemented pragmatic winning formulas. Fergal worked at Kraken Web Limited until 2012.

Prior to Kraken Web Limited, Fergal was involved in the day-to-day operations of Budda Bag Online as a Co-Operator from 2009 to 2011. In this role, they managed customer support, order management, and carried out online marketing activities.

From 1995 to 2011, Fergal served as the Technical Director at Adnet Limited. Fergal was responsible for systems and infrastructure administration and developed a PHP-based content management framework that is still in use today. Some of the clients they worked with included Dublin Chamber of Commerce and Original Print Gallery.

Fergal's career started at ERA-Maptec Ltd in 1993 as a Developer. Fergal worked on the development of a Visual Basic prototype and later became the architect and developer of the full-scale Linked Windows software infrastructure. Fergal also stepped in as the technical coordinator for the DEEP project, an EU-funded R&D project in petroleum and mineral exploration.

Throughout their career, Fergal Byrne has gained significant experience in cloud applications engineering, AI research, machine intelligence, data science, IT infrastructure management, and software development.

Fergal Byrne began their education at St Benildus College in 1982, where they completed their secondary school education. Following this, they enrolled at University College Dublin in 1987 and graduated in 1990 with a Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) degree, although the field of study is unknown. Fergal continued their studies at University College Dublin, this time in the field of Computer Science. Fergal completed their undergraduate degree in Computer Science (BSc) in 1992. Additionally, they pursued studies in Computer Science and Higher Mathematics from 1990 to 1993 at the same university, although no specific degree was mentioned.
