James Clayton

James Clayton is a highly experienced professional in the field of physics and engineering, currently serving as the Senior Director of Advanced Technology at ZAP Surgical Systems, Inc. since August 2023. With over two decades of experience as a Principal Scientist at Varian Medical Systems, part of Siemens Healthineers, James Clayton has led the development of innovative radiotherapy technologies, including Laser Plasma Accelerator Concepts and next-generation linear accelerators, while actively contributing to scientific literature and patent applications. Prior to Varian, James Clayton held key roles at Tyco Electronics and SAIC, where significant projects included the construction of irradiation facilities and advancements in non-invasive inspection technologies. James Clayton holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Physics from Indiana University Bloomington and both a Master of Science and Ph.D. in Physics from Michigan State University.
