On Monday, Macy’s has announced that Nata Dvir will serve as the retailer’s new Chief Merchandising Officer to help refine its offerings and shopping experience. She will transition to her new role on February 1, 2021, and report to Macy’s Chairman and CEO Jeff Gennette.

In her new role, Dvir will be responsible for leading Macy’s Merchandising, with oversight of all merchandising categories and private brands. She will succeed Patti Ongman who plans to retire at the end of the company’s 2020 fiscal year.

Dvir is a long-time Macy’s employee and began her career at the company as an executive trainee. She has since held various leadership roles within Macy’s merchant organization, including experience in the Men’s, Beauty, Shoes, Jewelry, Food, and Licensed businesses. Currently, the Syracuse University graduate serves as Macy’s SVP and General Business Manager for Beauty and Center Core merchandise and has been focused on expanding Macy’s online product assortment and evolving the service model in stores.

“Nata is a strong merchant with deep connections to our partners, first-rate instincts and an eye for newness,” Gennette said in a press release. “I’m confident that she will continue our merchandising transformation, influencing our customers’ personal style through accessible fashion, clear value and an enhanced digital and store experience.”

Dvir’s promotion seems to be part of a larger strategy by the department store chain to improve the quality of its offerings and shopping experience following a tough year that has seen competitors like Lord & Taylor declare bankruptcy. On Tuesday, Macy’s announced it would close around 45 stores in 2021 as part of a three-year plan to reduce store count and focus on its more productive outlets.
