Spotify

After nearly two decades as CEO, Spotify founder Daniel Ek is shifting to executive chairman. Day-to-day leadership passes to co-CEOs Gustav Söderström (former Chief Product & Technology Officer) and Alex Norström (former Chief Business Officer), formalizing a structure already in place. And in a surprising twist, despite its rivalry with Amazon Music, Spotify has teamed up with Amazon Ads to boost programmatic revenue and give Amazon DSP advertisers access to its nearly 700M monthly users. Comcast has named Mike Cavanagh, its President and former CFO, as co-CEO alongside Brian Roberts, signaling a strategic pivot for growth. Cavanagh, who will also join the Comcast board, has already driven major changes at NBCUniversal, including spinning out cable TV networks, with Comcast shares up 9% during his tenure despite an early 15% dip this year. Stéphane Israël, a former Boston Consulting Group partner, has been appointed managing director of AWS’s European Sovereign Cloud. Periodic Labs, co-founded by ex-Google Brain/DeepMind researcher Ekin Dogus Cubuk (creator of GNoME) and former OpenAI VP Liam Fedus (ChatGPT co-creator), has emerged from stealth with a massive $300M seed round. The startup aims to automate scientific discovery with AI scientists and robotic labs inventing new superconductors and advanced materials—marking a major push in AI-driven materials science. L’Oréal has named Alexis Perakis-Valat, who joined the company in 1994, as CEO of L’Oréal USA and President of North America, bringing decades of global leadership experience to the role. He succeeds David Greenberg, who steps into the newly created position of Chairman of L’Oréal USA. The moves underscore the strategic importance of the US market for the French beauty giant’s growth.
