Virgin Galactic named Doug Ahrens as its new Chief Financial Officer, effective March 1. Ahrens will be taking over for current CFO Jon Campagna, who is stepping down after Virgin Galactic fully transitions from a private company to a public one.

In his new role, Ahrens will bring his over 25 years of experience working in strategic finance and operations at multinational corporations to help expand the production at the company and bring in new revenue streams.

“I’m thrilled to welcome Doug Ahrens to the Virgin Galactic team,” Virgin Galactic CEO Michael Colglazier said in a press release. “Doug’s deep experience helping global manufacturing companies scale and grow, combined with his tremendous capital markets and M&A expertise, will be incredibly valuable as we expand our production capabilities and work to monetize the business.”

Ahrens most recently served as CFO at Mellanox, a public company in the semiconductor industry. Before Mellanox, Ahrens served as CFO for software engineering company GlobalLogic.

Part of the Virgin Group founded by British businessman Richard Branson, Virgin Galactic made headlines back in 2019 when it became the world’s first publicly traded human spaceflight company. It currently has a spacecraft that can carry six passengers and two pilots to the edge of space. The company has previously said they hope to be able to carry out commercial operations sometime in 2021.
