Spencer Thompson Brody has a diverse work experience in the field of software engineering. Spencer started their career as a Software Engineering Intern at ITA Software in 2008, where they implemented and helped design a new build system for Common Lisp. In 2009, they worked as a Software Engineering Intern at Facebook, where they designed and implemented a system for persistent storage of Facebook Chat conversations.

In 2010, Spencer joined Google as a Software Engineer, and then they moved to MongoDB in 2011. At MongoDB, they initially worked as a Senior Software Engineer, focusing on security features. Spencer played a significant role in rewriting the access control system from scratch and contributed to other security components as well. Later, they became a Lead Engineer and supervised a team responsible for the MongoDB core server replication system, data replication, and high availability/automatic failover systems. Under their leadership, the team grew from 6 to 10 engineers with a gender-balanced ratio.

After leaving MongoDB in 2018, Spencer took some time off until 2019. In 2020, they worked as an Independent Software Engineering Contractor, taking on two main contracts. One of the contracts was with Timber.io, where they presumably worked on software engineering projects.

Currently, Spencer is employed at 3Box since October 2020 as a Distributed Systems Engineer. Spencer contributes to the Ceramic network, an initiative to make the web more open and interoperable while giving users control over their data. As one of the early employees in the company, they play a crucial role in developing the core protocol for Ceramic.

Throughout their career, Spencer has gained experience across various companies and roles, including teaching assistant roles at the Brown Computer Science Department. Their expertise lies in software engineering, distributed systems, security, and team leadership.

Spencer Thompson Brody attended Fox Lane High School from 2002 to 2006. Spencer then went on to pursue higher education at Brown University from 2006 to 2010. At Brown, they obtained a Sc.B degree in Computer Science.
