Ellen Smith, MD FACEP, serves as a Professor of Critical Thinking in Wilderness Medicine at the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee since August 2019, following a distinguished 30-year career in Emergency, Sports, and Wilderness Medicine in Maryland. Smith is the Medical Director of Emergency Medical Services at Laurel Racetrack and Pimlico, and has developed various online home study seminars focusing on endurance medicine. As the Founder and CEO of Hotfoot Athletics, Smith integrates athletic injury care with advanced analytics for improved performance outcomes. In addition, Smith has held substantial roles in wilderness medicine education and has provided leadership in sports medicine at Alteon Health and MedStar Montgomery Medical Center. An alumna of Thomas Jefferson University and the University of Maryland School of Medicine, Smith has made significant contributions to medical training and athlete care.
