Kate Scurria

Director of Programs at A Glimmer of Hope

Kate Scurria is the current Director of Programs at A Glimmer of Hope. Prior to their current position, Kate was a Program Consultant with MEASURE Evaluation, providing technical assistance and training to the Government of Botswana (GOB), Ministry of Nationality, Immigration and Gender Affairs, Gender Affairs Department for ongoing work with the Gender-Based Violence Referral System (GBVRS). In this role, Kate liaised between GOB and civil society partners to supervise and support in-country GBVRS Project Management Teams, monitored GBVRS databases to identify and address issues and trends within the system, and oversaw and managed in-country subcontractors with implementation, monitoring, and maintenance of GBVRS.

Before their work with MEASURE Evaluation, Kate was a Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Victim Advocate with Tri-Valley Haven. As a certified Victim Advocate with dual training in domestic violence and sexual assault, Kate was a member of the Sexual Assault Response Team (SART), responding to crisis line calls and providing in-person emotional support for victims by accompanying clients to hospital, police department, court and other appointments as necessary.

Kate's experience working with victims of domestic violence and sexual assault has shaped their into the strong advocate they are today. Kate is passionate about their work with A Glimmer of Hope and is committed to helping others in any way they can.

Kate Scurria has a Masters of Public Administrations from Rutgers University - Camden, with a focus in International Public Service and Development. Kate also has a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of Colorado Boulder. Kate Scurria has spent time studying abroad in Thailand and Guatemala, where they learned about different cultures and studied intensive Spanish. Kate is also certified as a PADI Dive Master.

Kate Scurria reports to Mulualem Ashenafi, Director of Operations. They work with Liz Mullaney - Director of Systems Operations, Brody Kwiatkowski - Development Operations Manager, and Lindsey Futrell - Systems Operations Manager.
