Maria Verdugo

Maria Verdugo is an experienced professional in the field of medical affairs and clinical development, currently serving as the Head of Benefit Risk Management at AbbVie since January 2014. With a focus on oncology and ophthalmology, Maria has held multiple leadership roles including Group Medical Director and Global TA Lead for Dermatology and Ophthalmology. Prior to AbbVie, Maria worked at Pfizer, where responsibilities included Regional Clinical Development Director, and at Alcon Laboratories, overseeing global medical affairs for various ophthalmic products. Earlier career experiences include senior positions at Allergan Pharmaceuticals and Pfizer, as well as a research scientist role at Cornell University. Maria completed extensive medical training, including a residency in Ophthalmology, and holds degrees from prestigious institutions such as Universidad Central de Venezuela and others focused on retinal research and glaucoma.
