Academy for the Mathematical Sciences
Heather Tewkesbury is a seasoned professional in the fields of mathematics, engineering, and business development, currently serving as a member and chair of the Business, Industry & Government workstream at the Academy for the Mathematical Sciences since February 2023. Tewkesbury has been with the Smith Institute since August 2001, holding key roles such as Chief Executive Officer and Chief of Strategic Relationships, where expertise in leveraging mathematical thinking for industrial applications is applied. Additional positions include President Elect at the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications, Cold Water Swim Coach at How Cold Swim Coaching, and Board Trustee at The OR Society. Tewkesbury has contributed to various advisory boards at prestigious institutions, including the University of Warwick and the University of Bristol. Tewkesbury earned a PhD in Chemical Engineering/Mathematics from the University of Birmingham from 1996 to 1999.

Academy for the Mathematical Sciences
The Academy for the Mathematical Sciences is in its set up phase. We will work together to develop, communicate, teach and use the power of the mathematical sciences to benefit our world. This includes teaching and education, academic research pushing the frontiers of what is known, and the implementation of mathematics in practice. The Academy will be dedicated to supporting the advancement of the field ensuring that it delivers on its potential to enrich our world, by nurturing the people pipeline, and increasing societal engagement and recognition of the value, and indeed beauty, of mathematics. We know that the mathematical sciences improve lives, help people, help society, and improve the economy and productivity.
