Jae Eun Cheong

Senior Scientist at Accent Therapeutics

Jae Eun Cheong has worked at five companies since 2017. From 2017-2019, they were a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at both Harvard Medical School and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. At Harvard Medical School, they worked under Principal Investigator Lijun Sun, Ph.D. At Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, they developed new series of anticancer agents, designed and synthesized a highly potent and selective inhibitor of serine/threonine kinase DYRK1A, conducted large-scale synthesis of a novel inhibitor, an arylhydrocarbon receptor (AhR) lead compound, and prepared and characterized small molecules that inhibit interleukin (IL)-18 signaling. In 2019, they were an Investigator at Silicon Therapeutics, where they designed and synthesized many chemical series to explore the structure-activity relationship (SAR) and the structure-property relationship (SPR) for H2L and lead optimization in immuno-oncology projects, worked on the bench to deliver final targets and large-scale intermediates for team members, and was an active design team member, collaborating with computational chemists, biophysicists, structural biologists, and biologists to drive effective drug design and prioritize target synthesis. In 2021, they were a Senior Investigator at Roivant Sciences, where they were the chemistry lead on two early oncology programs, designed and executed chemistry strategies to make a ‘go/no go’ decision on the progressability of the use of PROTACs as a novel modality, led a chemistry and design team and generated FBDD chemistry strategies to transition the program from HitID to H2L, and worked within a multidisciplinary team – computational modeling, biophysics, biochemistry, and structural biology teams to explore SAR. Jae Eun is currently a Senior Scientist at Accent Therapeutics, Inc. since 2022.

Jae Eun Cheong received their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Organic Chemistry from Temple University in 2016. Jae Eun also holds a Master of Science (MS) in Organic Chemistry from Central Michigan University and a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Chemistry from Kyonggi University.
