Gene O'Donnell has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and industries. Gene started their career in 2005 as a Maintenance Technician at the National Park Service, Zion National Park. In 2006, they worked as a Health and Safety Specialist at Florida State University. Gene then interned as a Cartographic Technician at the USDA Forest Service in 2007. From 2008 to 2009, they served as a Utility Mapper at The Davey Tree Expert Company, where they created a GIS database of utilities for a rural cooperative. Gene joined Cherokee Nation Businesses in 2009 and held multiple positions during their tenure. Gene worked as a Software Account Manager from 2009 to 2017, managing an internal application for the USFS and coordinating with other application managers to prioritize work. Gene then transitioned into the role of an IT Project Manager, overseeing a portfolio of 8 applications and priority projects, estimating resources, and negotiating with stakeholders. Currently, Gene works as a Project Administrator at Ace Info Solutions, Inc. starting from 2019.

Gene O'Donnell earned their Bachelor of Science degree in Natural Resource Management from the University of Nevada, Reno, where they attended from 2000 to 2004. Gene then pursued a Master of Science degree in Geography at Florida State University, from 2006 to 2007. In addition to their academic achievements, Gene O'Donnell acquired a certification in Project Management from the Project Management Institute in May 2016.
