Wim Leers

Senior Principal Software Engineer at Acquia

Wim Leers has diverse work experience in various roles and companies. Wim began their career in 2004 as the founder of DriverPacks.net and open-sourced the project in 2006. From 2007 to 2012, they worked as a Freelance Drupal Developer at Wimsical. In 2008, they joined Mollom as a Drupal Developer, where they developed a Drupal-based subscription/payment/accounting system. In 2011, Wim worked as a Software Engineer Intern on the Site Speed team at Facebook, where they analyzed Facebook's web performance data. Wim then joined Acquia in 2012 as a Senior Software Engineer in the Office of the CTO, where they worked full-time on Drupal core until 2016. From 2016 to 2020, they held the role of Principal Software Engineer in the Office of the CTO, and in 2020, they became a Senior Principal Software Engineer at Acquia. During their employment at Acquia, Wim played a leading role in the migration from Drupal 7 to Drupal 8/9, and also worked on architecting an upgrade path.

Wim Leers earned a Bachelor's degree with honors in Computer Science from UHasselt in 2009. Wim continued their education at UHasselt and obtained a Master's degree in Computer Science with a specialization in Databases in 2012. Prior to attending UHasselt, Wim studied Latin-Math at both Virga-Jesse College from 2004 to 2006 and Ursula-Instituut from 2000 to 2004.
