Joe Lane has a diverse work experience in policy and research. Joe currently serves as the Head of Policy and Research at Action for Children since January 2021. Prior to this role, they worked with Citizens Advice, where they held multiple positions including Principal Policy Manager from December 2018 to January 2021, Senior Policy Researcher from October 2016 to November 2018, and Policy Researcher from March 2015 to October 2016. Joe also worked as a Policy Officer at The 157 Group from July 2014 to March 2015. Joe Lane started their career as a Teacher at Teach First from June 2012 to August 2014 and held the position of Projects Officer at Education and Employers Taskforce from July 2011 to June 2012.

Joe Lane attended the University of Oxford from 2008 to 2011, where they earned a BA degree in Modern History. In 2012, they studied at Sheffield Hallam University and obtained a PGCE degree in History. Joe then pursued a Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Social Sciences at The University of Manchester from 2013 to 2015. Finally, they attended the College of Law, Bloomsbury from 2014 to 2016, where they completed a Graduate Diploma in Law.
