Backend Engineer (.net)

ActiveCampaign Postmark is a distributed email-as-a-service system that is capable of processing 5000+ emails per second, with a target per-message latency of less than 500ms.  

Our backend environment is currently a blend of .NET Core running in Linux containers, or as Lambdas, with a handful of remaining Windows-based services we're in the process of refactoring.  That said, this role will focus primarily on C#/.NET, but you will also interacting with other tools and infrastructure like Elasticsearch, Grafana, Kibana, MySQL, and various AWS services (eg. RDS, ECS, Cloudwatch, etc.).

What you'll be responsible for:

• Designing and implementing software that strikes the right balance between delivering on business needs and delivering the quality of code you are proud to ship.
• Shaping the Postmark system over time to remain highly reliable and scalable, through system design, infrastructure improvements, code optimizations, or other technical initiatives.
• Guarding the health of our systems — you’ll be part of an on-call schedule and help mitigate system abuse by spammers
• Setting clear expectations around your work, knowing when to break down nebulous tasks into manageable parts, and communicating that to your teammates
• Being a steward for developer standards, best practices, and quality
• Being a partner to Customer Support, Product, and Design, and collaborating with those teams cross-functionally

Ideally you will have:

• Played a significant role in designing, building, and operating complex production systems with components of varying scalability, reliability, and performance requirements
• Experience with managed cloud infrastructure (eg. AWS, GCP, Azure, etc.) and system automation tools
• Passion for guiding systems and software towards improved standards and practices
• Familiarity with various deployment architecture paradigms, such as zero downtime deploys, canary servers, etc.
• (Nice to have) Familiarity with email-specific topics, such as SMTP, SPF, DKIM, DMARC, etc.
