Katie Mirick Thomasson has extensive experience in alumni engagement and relations. Katie currently holds the position of Vice President, Alumni Engagement at Adtalem Global Education since 2023. Prior to that, they worked at Duke University - The Fuqua School of Business, where they held several roles, including Executive Director, Alumni Engagement from April 2023 to August 2023. In this role, they managed a team responsible for engagement strategy for over 28,000 alumni worldwide. Katie also collaborated with internal and external stakeholders to recruit and train volunteers. Before that, they served as Director, Alumni Relations from July 2015 to April 2023 and as Senior Associate Director, Alumni Relations and Special Events from July 2014 to July 2015. Katie revitalized the regional club program and managed approximately 75 volunteers during their tenure as Associate Director, Alumni Relations from July 2008 to June 2014.
Katie also has experience in alumni affairs at George Mason University, where they worked as Associate Director, Alumni Affairs from October 2003 to July 2008. Katie organized programs and events to engage the university's 100,000 alumni and supervised the scholarship and awards application process.
Additionally, they worked at Arlington-Alexandria Coalition for the Homeless as the Coordinator of Volunteer Services from July 2000 to October 2003. In this role, they managed volunteer efforts, represented the agency at community events, and developed the volunteer policies and procedures handbook.
Katie's work experience also includes a role as an Account (School) Manager at On Campus Marketing from June 1999 to July 2000. In this position, they managed accounts for 75-80 schools, coordinated contracts, and edited literature for fundraising campaigns.
Katie Mirick Thomasson holds a Diversity and Inclusion HR Certificate from Cornell University, which they obtained in 2022. Katie completed their Master of Public Administration and Graduate Certificate in Nonprofit Management at George Mason University from 2000 to 2003. Prior to that, they earned a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Marketing Management from Virginia Tech in 1999. Katie also obtained additional certifications, including Unconscious Bias from LinkedIn in 2020, and Cvent Event Marketing Strategy and Cvent Virtual Events Certification from Cvent in August 2021. Katie has also obtained a certification in Nonprofit Management from George Mason University.
