Group Environment And Community Manager at Aeris Resources

Damon Newling has extensive work experience in various environmental and community roles. Damon currently serves as the Group Environment and Community Manager at Aeris Resources Limited since January 2023. Prior to this, they worked at Round Oak Minerals Pty Limited as the Environment and Community Manager from January 2022 to January 2023, and as the Environment and Community Coordinator from July 2019 to January 2022. Their responsibilities included supporting environmental and community activities across national operations in the mining and processing industry.

Before that, Damon worked at Transurban as the HSE Lead - Queensland from October 2016 to March 2019, where they managed health, safety, and environmental risks for tunnel assets and motorways. Damon was also responsible for coordinating with operations teams and leading a team of HSE advisors.

Damon's experience also includes roles at Rio Tinto, where they held the positions of Environment Specialist (April 2011 to September 2016) and Environment Superintendent (February 2004 to April 2011). In these roles, they were responsible for environmental management across port operations, rail network, mining operations, company-managed town, and utilities infrastructure. Damon oversaw a team of up to seven professionals.

Damon began their career at the Queensland Environmental Protection Agency as a Senior Advisor from March 2000 to February 2004.

Damon Newling has an extensive education history. Damon obtained their Doctor of Philosophy - PhD in Environmental Management from James Cook University from 1995 to 2001. Prior to that, they completed their BSc Honours in Environmental Science at James Cook University in 1994. Their undergraduate degree, a Bachelor of Science - BS in Environmental Science, was also obtained from James Cook University from 1991 to 1993.

In addition to their academic achievements, Damon has also obtained several certifications. In 2016, they received a Construction Industry White Card (QLD) from Bluedog Training. In 2007, they obtained a Diploma of Business from the Australian Institute of Management. Damon also holds an ISO14001 Lead Auditor Certificate of Competency from Intraco, which they obtained in 2006. Finally, they received a Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training from Marc Ratcliffe Workplace Education and Development in 2001.
