Abdul Aziz Bin Abu Bakar

Independent Non-Executive Director at Affin Bank Group

YBhg. Dato’ Abdul Aziz Bin Abu Bakar, aged 65, was appointed as an Independent Non-Executive Director of Affin Bank Berhad on 17 October 2017.

YBhg. Dato’ Abdul Aziz is presently the Executive Director of Malaysian Directors Academy (MINDA) and also serving as an Independent Non-Executive Director of ALKHAIR International Islamic Bank Malaysia Bhd (AKIIB) and an Independent Non-Executive Director of Merchant Trade Asia Bhd, where he chairs both the Nomination and Remuneration Committees. He is an Alternate Director at SOCSO and is a Council Member at Malaysian Employers Federation (MEF). He is also a member of the Resources Committee of Razak School of Government (RSOG). Previous Board positions held were in INTRIA Berhad as it’s MD (currently known as UEM Builders), Costain Group Plc (UK), Rangkaian Segar Sdn Berhad and FCW Holdings Berhad.

He has held several senior positions across a number of industries including aviation, oil & gas, construction, banking and telecommunication. Prior to his appointment at MINDA, he was the Chief Human Capital Officer of Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM), Executive VP, Human Resources of RHB Bank Berhad. Before that, Dato’ Aziz was attached to Shell Malaysia for 20 years in various management positions which included Internal & IT Audit, Marketing Economics, Sales & Distribution, Supply & Planning and Human Resource. In 1991, he was assigned to an international posting to Shell Group HQ in London where he held the position of the shareholders’ representative overseeing Shell’s business interests in Hong Kong and China.

YBhg. Dato’ Abdul Aziz holds a Bachelor of Economics (Honours) degree from University of Malaya and is an alumnus of the Royal Military College. He has also attended the Harvard Business School - Senior Management Development Programme (SMDP) in 2000 and Financial Institutions Directors Education (FIDE) Programme in 2011. In recognition of his contribution and work in the HR profession, he was awarded the National HR Leader Award in 2003 by the Ministry of Human Resources and Malaysian Institute of HR Management.
