Dr. Hassan Mahmud is an economist and central banker with over 30 years of public service experience. Currently, he is the Director, Monetary Policy Department, Central Bank of Nigeria. In this capacity, he supervises and coordinates the formulation of technical inputs for the design and implementation of monetary policy. Prior to this role, he was the Group Head, Macro-prudential Analysis in the Financial Policy and Regulation Department of the Central Bank of Nigeria, where he oversaw the conduct of off-site macro-prudential surveillance, appraisal of banking industry financial soundness indicators, and evaluation of industry stress test. From 2010 to 2014, he was the Special Advisor to the Governor on economic policy and research, where he played a key role in shaping the Bank’s economic and monetary policy decisions, particularly in the areas of foreign exchange and inflation rates developments.
