About the role  

We are looking for an experienced social listening expert, who specialises in data-led investigations using large data social-listening and media analysis tools alongside more specialised OSINT tools, with a background in political or social sciences. 

The successful candidate will lead and oversee our social listening and media analysis activities, assisting project teams with defining the best data strategy for the project, setting up monitoring and search dashboards, monitoring, evaluating and troubleshooting dashboards and assisting with more complex OSINT searches. The role sits under our Insights Practice Area, specifically our Data & AI-powered Insights Solution, and requires a creative, innovative, analytic and go-getter mindset. 

Consulting services (80%)

  • Support complex policy, political and stakeholder advisory and advocacy projects with robust social listening and media monitoring for insights and thematic signal tracking, using a variety of OSINT tools, including our large data social listening platform provider.

  • Support campaigning and advocacy projects with media analysis and media monitoring, generating reports on media engagement reach, value for money and impact.

  • Support the campaigning team with the identification of advocacy targets and advocacy messaging testing.

  • Specifically, be the first point of contact for the team and oversee the use of our social listening and media monitoring tools, guiding teams with the design of their monitoring strategies, and the setting up of dashboards and boolean searches.

  • Conduct more comprehensive and creative OSINT analyses for complex political, policy and advocacy projects, producing client-ready, highly visual output.

Other responsibilities 

  • Train a select team in social listening and media monitoring, including use of our platforms.

  • Establish guidance documentation on social listening and media monitoring for insights as initial steer to project teams for them to evaluate their needs and develop clear briefs for the first point of contact.

  • Establish guidance documentation on best practices for media reach, value for money and impact reporting.

  • Innovate with data-driven methods for message resonance testing and run small prototypes and pilots on a project basis.

  • Keep current with OSINT tools and help build Africa Practice’s knowledge base and tools and subscription selection.

  • Assist the executive team in determining client-facing SaaS offerings around the subject matter.

What we are looking for

  • At least 7 years of experience using social listening, media monitoring, and other OSINT tools in an analytical and investigative fashion.

  • A background in political or social sciences, with additional expertise in data science an advantage.

  • Excellent investigative and analytical skills, combined with a genuine interest in public policy and the development of our continent.

  • Outstanding ability to communicate visually and excellent verbal and written communication.

  • A dynamic self-starter, able to work on their own initiative on complex issues.

  • Diplomacy, tact and understanding of priorities to achieve common goals.

  • Ability to adapt well to changing demands or ambiguous situations, with an eagerness to seize opportunities.

  • Ability to cultivate strong trust-based relationships with people at all levels within the company, as well as client organisations and the wider business and political ecosystem.

  • Fluency in English.
