Marco Guzman

Instrumentation & Surface Science Staff Engineer at Agena Bioscience

Marco Guzman has a strong background in engineering and research and development. Marco began their career at Hewlett-Packard in 2001, where they worked as an R&D/Manufacturing Senior Engineer. Marco was responsible for designing and developing mechanical components and systems for large industrial printing presses, as well as creating lean manufacturing lines for assembly.

In 2008, Guzman joined Agilent Technologies as an R&D Engineering group leader. In this role, they provided leadership to a team of engineers working on opto/electromechanical medical devices. Marco conducted design reviews, performed tolerance stack analysis, and used FEA models to assess product performance. Marco also worked on manufacturing transfer to overseas partners and collaborated with cross-functional teams to ensure product introduction and release.

Guzman then moved on to Illumina in 2011, where they served as a Consumable Development Senior R&D Engineer. Marco'sresponsibilities included developing low-cost, high-volume glass flow cell consumables for Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) instrumentation. Marco led mechanical design efforts, executed design of experiments (DOEs), and conducted statistical data analysis to drive design decisions.

Most recently, Guzman worked at Agena Bioscience starting in 2012 as an Instrumentation & Surface Science Staff Engineer. Here, they focused on surface science, developing novel approaches and techniques for surface activation and coating. Marco had expertise in injection molding resins and was responsible for the selection of materials for various applications.

Throughout their career, Guzman has demonstrated strong technical skills, leadership abilities, and an ability to communicate effectively with both upper management and colleagues.

Marco Guzman attended MATLAB Academy in the year 2023, where they completed the MATLAB OnRamp program, focusing on programming and numeric computing platforms. Prior to that, they pursued their Master's degree in Engineering at Arizona State University from 2004 to 2006, specializing in Mechanical and Materials Engineering. Marco holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from California State University, Chico. Marco's education history also includes completing their high school education at Central Union High School, where they received a diploma.
