Robert Mapes has a diverse work experience that spans over several organizations. Robert started their career in 2000 as a Program Coordinator at Little Brothers-Friends of the Elderly, where they coordinated visiting and social activities for older adults. In 2005, they left this role. In 2007, they joined AgeOptions as an Aging Well Coordinator and later became the Manager of Community and Agency Relations in 2009. In 2012, they were promoted to the position of Director of Program and Community Support. Additionally, they served as a Board Member at Northside Community Resources from 2008 to 2021.

Robert Mapes obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree with a focus on History and Latin American Studies from DePaul University, which they attended from 1994 to 1998. Later, they pursued a Master of Social Work degree specializing in Aging & Management of Human Services from the University of Michigan from 2005 to 2006.

AgeOptions is a nonprofit organization connecting older adults and those who care for them with resources and service options so they can live their lives to the fullest. Since 1974, our mission has been to sustain and promote independence for older persons in their own homes and communities. As the Area Agency on Aging of suburban Cook County, Illinois, we advocate, plan, coordinate and fund services for older adults. Together with a network of community-based senior service organizations, we connect residents with vital services such as information and assistance, community dining programs and home-delivered meals, housekeeping help, employment services, access to benefits and support for family caregivers.
