Omaru Maruatona

Omaru Maruatona has worked for six companies in the past twelve years. In 2008, they began working as a Graduate Systems Engineer at Debswana Diamond Company, where they were responsible for designing and developing in-house applications, managing software vendors and suppliers, supervising the operation's service desk, managing external software acquisition processes, and maintaining the operation's intranet. In 2010, they joined Internet Commerce Security Laboratory (ICSL) as an AI-Cyber Research Consultant. In 2013, they moved to Computershare to become a Security Analyst, where they deployed and managed an application security compliance monitoring program, assisted with application penetration tests, and managed third party/outsourced penetration tests. In 2015, they joined PwC Australia as a Cyber Strategy, Design, and Architecture. In 2017, they became the CEO of Aiculus. In 2020, they joined CyLon as an Advisor, where they worked with the CEO to create and administer the CyLon Go programme, which aimed to increase the number of people from underrepresented backgrounds entering the cyber-security workforce by offering grants for cyber security training and pathways into cyber-security careers. During its operation, the CyLon Go programme funded cyber-security training and certification grants to over 20 people of currently underrepresented backgrounds in cybersecurity.

Omaru Maruatona has an extensive educational background. Omaru obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Internet Banking Security using Data Mining & Machine Learning from Federation University Australia between 2010 and 2013. Prior to that, they obtained an Honours (First class) in Software Systems Engineering from La Trobe University between 2005 and 2008. Additionally, Omaru Maruatona has obtained several certifications, including CCSP from (ISC)² in June 2016, SABSA Foundation SCF from The SABSA Institute in January 2016, CISSP from (ISC)² in June 2014, Network Penetration Testing and Ethical Hacking from SANS Institute in June 2014, and ITIL from ITIL Certified in September 2010.
