Mahlet Garedew, Ph.D.

Mahlet Garedew, Ph.D. has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and industries. Currently, they are working as an Innovation Program Manager at AIR COMPANY since May 2023. Prior to this, they served as a Lab Manager at the same company from June 2021 to May 2023.

From July 2018 to June 2021, Mahlet worked as a Yale Institute for Biospheric Studies Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Center for Green Chemistry and Green Engineering, Yale University.

Before joining Yale, Mahlet was engaged in research and academic roles at Michigan State University - Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering. Mahlet served as a Graduate Research Assistant/PhD Candidate from August 2014 to June 2018. Additionally, they were a Teaching Assistant/Academic Coach at the Engineering and Science Success Academy (ESSA) for a brief period in June 2015. Prior to their PhD, they worked as a Graduate Research Assistant from August 2011 to August 2014.

Furthermore, Mahlet has relevant experience in student support services. From August 2009 to July 2011, they worked as an Assistant Hall Director at Michigan State University, directly supervising undergraduate resident assistants and serving as a graduate adviser for in-hall student groups. Mahlet also mentored students as a Diversity Program Office Summer Engineering Program Mentor in the summer of 2009 and served as an Office of Cultural and Academic Transitions Aide, assisting students in college transition and organizing multicultural events from August 2008 to May 2009.

Mahlet's work experience also includes a role as an Engineering Summer Undergraduate Research Intern, where they collaborated on a research project with chemical engineering and material science professors at Michigan State University in the summer of 2008.

Before pursuing higher education, Mahlet gained valuable experience as a Student-Athlete Supportive Services Tutor at Michigan State University from September 2007 to May 2008.

Mahlet Garedew, Ph.D. obtained their Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Material Science and Engineering from Michigan State University in 2009. Mahlet then pursued a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Material Science and Engineering, also at Michigan State University, from 2009 to 2011. Following this, they shifted to Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering and completed another Master of Science (MSc) degree in this field at the same university from 2011 to 2014. Finally, Mahlet Garedew earned their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering from Michigan State University in 2018.
