Ioannis Konstas

Ioannis Konstas has extensive experience in the field of Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Machine Learning. Ioannis currently works at Alana, a spin-off company of Heriot-Watt University, where they hold the position of Co-founder & Head of Machine Learning. Alana focuses on enhancing user experience and streamlining processes through natural conversation. Their role involves developing NLP and Machine Learning software to enable engaging multi-turn conversations across various sectors such as healthcare, finance, entertainment, and education.

Prior to their current role, Konstas worked as an Associate Professor at Heriot-Watt University starting from September 2017. Before that, they were a Research Associate at the University of Washington from September 2015 to September 2017. Their responsibilities included conducting research in NLP.

Earlier in their career, Konstas held positions at the University of Edinburgh as a Research Associate from May 2013 to September 2015, and as a PhD Student in Natural Language Processing from October 2009 to October 2013. Ioannis then pursued a Master of Science (MSc) in Artificial Intelligence at The University of Edinburgh from 2007 to 2008. Finally, they obtained their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Natural Language Processing from The University of Edinburgh, graduating in 2013.
