Chief Mate at Alaska Tanker Company

Matthew Butcka has over 9 years of work experience in the maritime industry. Matthew began their career as a Deck Cadet at Alaska Tanker Company in 2010. In this role, they gained valuable experience in ship operations and maintenance. In 2012, Matthew was promoted to Third Mate, where they contributed to the safe navigation and operation of the vessel. Matthew then served as a Relief Second Mate in 2016, ensuring passage plans and navigation equipment were properly prepared for coastwise trips. Matthew's most recent role at Alaska Tanker Company is Chief Mate, which they began in December 2019. In this position, they continue to demonstrate their expertise in navigation and leadership on a 190000DWT TAPS trade tanker.

Matthew Butcka attended Maine Maritime Academy from 2008 to 2012, where they obtained a Bachelor's degree in Marine Transportation. Additionally, they earned a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Marine Transportation from the same institution. In terms of certifications, Matthew Butcka obtained a Master, Any Gross Tonnage from the USCG in June 2022.
