Niraj Tolia has extensive experience in the technology industry, with a focus on cloud storage, data management, and distributed systems. Niraj is currently the CEO and Co-Founder of Alcion, a security-first AI-driven Backup-as-a-Service (BaaS) platform. Prior to this, they were the SVP of Strategy at Kasten, an independent Kubernetes Business Unit within Veeam. Niraj also served as the President and GM of Kasten, where they led and grew the company. Before joining Kasten, Niraj was the Senior Director of Software Engineering at EMC, where they led a cross-functional team in delivering cloud-based products. Niraj also held leadership positions at Maginatics, Inc (acquired by EMC) and Hedvig Inc. In addition, Niraj has contributed to the tech industry through their role as a Technical Advisor and their research work at HP Labs and Carnegie Mellon University, where they focused on storage systems and distributed systems optimization.

Niraj Tolia has a strong educational background in computer engineering and computer science. Niraj began their academic journey in 1998 at Carnegie Mellon University, where they pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering. During their undergraduate studies, they also completed an additional major in Computer Science. Continuing their education at Carnegie Mellon, Niraj obtained a Master of Science degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from 2002 to 2003. Niraj further advanced their knowledge and expertise by earning a PhD in Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University, completing their doctoral studies from 2003 to 2007.
