M. Kaye DeWalt

M. Kaye DeWalt became General Counsel in April 2013. She received her Bachelor of Science degree cum laude from Texas Southern University in 1980 and her Juris Doctor degree in 1984 from Howard University School of Law, Washington DC, where she began her legal career as Assistant University Counsel. Ms. DeWalt is a former Trial Attorney for the Houston District Office of the U. S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and an Assistant District Attorney in the Harris County District Attorney’s Office. In 1992, she was appointed Assistant School Attorney and soon after became General Counsel for the Houston Independent School District until 2004 when she went into private practice. She worked at the law firms of Epstein, Becker, Green, Wickliff & Hall, Adams and Reese, and Littler Mendelson where she practiced in the field of education law with a concentration on labor and employment law and provided legal training on various topics. Ms. DeWalt has nearly four decades of experience which includes civil and criminal litigation, labor and employment, and education law.
