Hao Qian

Hao Qian has served as CFO of Lazada at Alibaba since July 2016. Prior to that, they were a senior financial analyst at Amazon from June 2014 to July 2016.

At Amazon, Hao was responsible for quarterly and monthly financial reporting to manage P&L for Amazon’s Tools and Home Improvement product lines. Hao also partnered with the business team to develop business cases to support all major financial decisions, including sales forecast for Holiday deals with negligible negative margin impact, and performing Retail cost structure analysis to advise Retail business to forgo selections.

In addition, Hao was responsible for forecasting & planning of current year and future year operating plans, accuracy of monthly financial results and performing ad-hoc analysis to quantify potential risks and opportunities to operating plan. Hao also developed a financial time series model to help Supply Chain Management team optimize inventory receipts; resulting in year-end inventory reduction.

Hao also advised annual vendor negotiations by summarizing key financial metrics and finding gaps in vendor-funding to cover expenses in P&L line items. Hao identified the root causes of profitability issue of Tools’ top vendor; resulting negotiated cost reduction to bring the vendor’s profitability in-line with average Tools vendors. In addition, they developed and executed a third party (3P) referral fee test to evaluate seller behavior to Amazon’s fee promotions; resulting promoting casual 3P seller sale activity and reopening negotiation with one major retail chain to join Amazon’s 3P platform.

Hao Qian has a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the MIT Sloan School of Management, an MSc in Finance from Rochester Institute of Technology, and a BSc in Physics/Economics from Fudan University.
