John E. Kiernan

John E. Kiernan is currently the President & CEO at Alico. Prior to this, they served as the Chief Financial Officer & Treasurer at Greenwich Associates from December 2011 to May 2015. Kiernan was recruited by the CEO to be the first outside CFO in order to institutionalize a finance department suffering from a lack of credibility due to errors, inconsistent and inactionable analyses, and communication breakdowns.

Under Kiernan's leadership, the finance department was transformed into a competent, stable, motivated team with exceptional ethics. John led a 20–person finance team in the US and Canada and was responsible for all financial communication to the shareholders, senior management and the Board; M&A and integration activities; external financial relationships; debt compliance reporting; legal functions as well as liaison with external corporate counsel; and maintaining all corporate records.

Kiernan also authored the revised Operating Agreement and Compensation Plan which serve as the LLC’s governing documents. John was able to slash $4M in operating expenses in the first year, sacrificing popularity to meet the 2012 EBITDA target and maintain adequate firm liquidity. John also negotiated $10M of bank term loan financing on improved terms; negotiated the company’s first–ever outside capital.

John E. Kiernan holds an MBA from the University of Virginia Darden School of Business, a JD from the University of Virginia School of Law, and a BA in finance and history from Saint Vincent College. John is certified by the Association for Financial Professionals as a Certified Treasury Professional and by the American Bar Association as Admitted to New York State Bar.
