Jendrik Boothby-Hentschel

Parental Leave at Alida Biosciences

Jendrik Boothby-Hentschel has gained extensive work experience in the field of biosciences. Their most recent position was as a Staff Scientist at Alida Biosciences, starting in April 2023. Before that, they worked at Element Biosciences, where they held two roles: Senior Scientist, Protein Engineering and Biochemistry from October 2022 to April 2023, and Scientist 2, Protein Engineering and Biochemistry from May 2021 to October 2022.

Prior to their industry roles, Jendrik worked as a Visiting Postdoctoral Scholar at Stanford University from June 2019 to May 2021, where they focused on dissecting the real-time kinetics of human telomerase reverse transcriptase using high-throughput single-molecule spectroscopy. Jendrik also contributed to a successful NIH R01 grant application and presented their research at the Cold Spring Harbor Meeting.

Before their time at Stanford, Jendrik held two positions at the University of California, Santa Cruz. Jendrik was a Postdoctoral Fellow in Protein Chemistry and Single-molecule Biophysics from July 2018 to May 2021, during which they completed and published a research project on telomere maintenance. Jendrik also obtained a Postdoc Fellowship and contributed to a successful NIH R01 grant application. Prior to that, they were a Postdoctoral Scholar in the same field from April 2018 to June 2018.

Jendrik's earlier experiences include working as a Postdoctoral Researcher in Protein Biochemistry and Biophysics at ETH Zürich from January 2017 to March 2018, where they published high-resolution structures of mycobacterial ribosomes and characterized telomerase enzyme complexes. Jendrik also pursued their PhD at ETH Zürich from February 2011 to December 2016, focusing on the recombinant production and reconstitution of telomerase reverse transcriptase. During their PhD, they initiated a collaboration with a biotech company for large-scale expression of proteins and RNA.

Jendrik's career began as a Research Associate at the Max Planck Institute for Biochemistry from October 2010 to February 2011, where they worked on projects related to RNA helicases and protein-protein interactions. Jendrik also completed an experimental thesis at the institute during their studies of Molecular Medicine.

In addition to their academic and industry experiences, Jendrik has interned at Uppsala University, the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, and the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics, where they gained hands-on experience in molecular biology and x-ray crystallography.

During their time as a student at the University of Freiburg, Jendrik worked as a Student Assistant in Biochemistry and Microsystems Engineering from 2005 to 2008.

Overall, Jendrik Boothby-Hentschel has a diverse work experience background in various aspects of protein engineering, biochemistry, biophysics, and molecular biology.

Jendrik Boothby-Hentschel began their education in 2004 at the Technische Universität Braunschweig, where they studied Pharmacy. In the same year, they also attended The University of Freiburg, where they pursued a Degree in Molecular Medicine, earning the title of Diplom Molekularmediziner (Dipl.-Mol.Med.) from 2004 to 2010. Following this, Jendrik continued their academic journey at ETH Zürich from 2011 to 2016, specializing in Molecular Biology and Biophysics, specifically in the field of Structural Biology. Jendrik successfully obtained a Doctor of Sciences degree (Dr. sc. ETH Zürich) during this time.
