POSITION OVERVIEW     

The Controls Service Engineer is responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, calibration, repair, and installation of Machine Control Systems, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), field instrumentation, variable frequency drives, Fieldbus network systems, HMI's.The primary work location is the Van Wert office. The position does allow for working remotely from time to time.

TOP 5 RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Troubleshoot robots, PLC, HMI, and Mechanical systems.
    1. Performs preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, calibration, repair, and replacement of Machine Control Systems, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), field instrumentation, variable frequency drives, Fieldbus network systems, and HMI's in accordance with industry standards.
  2. Discuss, diagnose, and process problems reported by the customer.
    1. Take Service Reports and contact the customer to resolve the issues without traveling to the site.
  3. Interface with Customers and provide a WOW experience.
    1. Being able to walk through an issues with a customer that doesn’t have the technical back ground that you do. While exceeding customer expectations.
  4. Interpreting wiring schematics.
    1. Reading and understanding electrical prints.
  5. Supporting other Service Department’s information requests.
    1. Searching for job-related information to complete the Service Report or quotes.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES

  1. Concepting new equipment upgrades.
    1. Scheduled and quoted upgrades to equipment.
  2. Install Mechanical and Electrical parts.
    1. Using tools and installing parts to complete the Service Report.
  3. Occasionally work hours other than regular schedules such as days, nights, weekends, holidays, on-call, and rotating shifts.
    1. Customer expectations are 24/7 support.
  4. Travel to customer sites at a moment's notice to perform troubleshooting and repair functions.
    1. Customer expectations are that they won't be down for more than 24 hours.
  5. Troubleshoot robotic systems, using knowledge of programmable controllers, electronics, circuit analysis, mechanics, sensor or feedback systems, hydraulics, or pneumatics.
    1. Being able to systematically walk through mechanical or electronic issues, programming faults, and potential problems.
  6. Write new computer-controlled robot movements.
    1. Need to have the ability to design new robot points, change offsets, and load new programs.
  7. Align, fit, assemble, or weld components using hand tools, power tools, fixtures, templates, and welders.
    1. Working with your hands to assemble and weld equipment Mig or Stick.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

  • 3 years of relevant experience in the Field of Expertise.

  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • Proficient at laptop computers.

  • Capable of using a tablet.

  • Experienced in Multi-meter

  • Adequate in Microsoft Office products.

  • Good verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.

  • Must have valid driving privileges.

  • Willingness and ability to travel (20-30%).

  • Willingness and ability to stay overnight (20-30%).

  • Have or the ability to obtain a passport.

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a computer workstation.

  • Physical requirements include visual acuity, color vision, standing, sitting, walking, climbing, bending, crawling, squatting, kneeling, working in cramped and strained positions for long periods, and lifting up to 75 pounds.

  • Working conditions are primarily inside a factory-type environment—mechanical, electrical, confined space hazards; offensive fumes; excessive noise; heavy forklift traffic.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

  • 10+ years of relevant experience in the Field of Expertise.

  • Proficient skills in programming Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and Human-Machine Interface (HMI) computer workstations.

  • Work order and maintenance management systems experience.

  • Proficient with data communications systems, protocols, and cabling, including wired and wireless network systems.
