Erik Baptist

Erik Baptist serves as Senior Counsel and Director of the Center for Life at Alliance Defending Freedom since May 2022, focusing on litigation and advocacy to protect unborn babies and their mothers from abortion-related harms. Prior to this role, Erik was a Senior Counsel at Wiley Rein LLP from June 2019 to March 2022 and held various positions at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, including Deputy Assistant Administrator and Senior Deputy General Counsel from June 2017 to June 2019. Erik's extensive legal experience also includes serving as Senior Counsel at the American Petroleum Institute from May 2011 to June 2017, Attorney at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission from March 2009 to May 2011, and Associate at McDermott Will & Emery from September 2004 to January 2009. Erik began a legal career with summer and judicial internships, gaining experience in multiple legal settings. Erik holds a Doctor of Law (JD) from The George Washington University Law School and a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in American Studies and Sociology from Vanderbilt University.
