Erica Smith started their work experience as a Photo Editing Intern at Marie Claire in 2008. Erica then interned as a Public Relations/Communications Intern at the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum in 2010. Erica then worked as an Executive Assistant to the CEO and later as a Client Relations Manager at The Daily Voice in 2011. In 2012, they joined Indeed.com and held positions as a Client Support Specialist, Senior Client Support Specialist, and eventually as a Manager of Client Services. Erica then worked at Sotheby's, where they held various roles including Vice President and Director of Global Digital Operations, Senior Vice President of Global Product Management, and Head of Client Experience at TheKey in 2021.

Erica Smith attended UCLA from 2007 to 2011, where they obtained their Bachelor's degree in Art History. In 2009, they briefly studied at Universitat Pompeu Fabra, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art History.
