Nicholas Cooper has a diverse background in statistics, bioinformatics, and neuroscience. Nicholas is currently working as a Principal Statistician at Alto Neuroscience, where they focus on personalized medicine treatments for psychiatric illnesses. Prior to this, they worked as a Senior Bioinformatics Scientist (consultant) at BioLizard, where they were involved in projects related to biomarker development, machine learning, and data strategy evaluation. Nicholas also has experience as a Software Manager (Research and Innovation) at British Cycling, where they worked on optimizing performance for the Olympic track cycling squad using computational analysis and data insights. Additionally, Nicholas has worked as a Statistical Genetics Consultant at Healthdom and a Statistical Genetics and Cognitive Science consultant at Total Brain, where they conducted analysis on clinical trial genetics datasets and provided support for cognitive testing platforms. Nicholas holds a PhD in advanced statistics and bioinformatics from the University of Cambridge, where their research focused on genome-wide association studies in type 1 diabetes. Early in their career, Nicholas worked as a Senior Statistician (Neuroscience) at The Brain Resource Company, where they developed evidence-based tools for diagnosis and treatment support in neuroscience.
Nicholas Cooper completed their education with a B Sc (Hons I) in Psychology and Mathematics (Adv.) from the University of Sydney in 2003. Nicholas then pursued an MPhil in Computational Biology at the University of Cambridge from 2011 to 2012. Following this, they obtained a PhD in Medical Genetics with a specialization in Computational Biology from the University of Cambridge, completing their studies in 2016.
