Kommy Weldemariam

Kommy Weldemariam serves as the Director of Sustainability Science and Innovation at Amazon, having joined in December 2023 as Chief Scientist. Prior to this role, Kommy spent over a decade at IBM, where notable positions included Distinguished Engineer and CTO, Chief Architect for Science and Applications, and Worldwide Leader for Climate and Sustainability technologies. In these capacities, Kommy advanced architectural integration in sustainability and healthcare, launched initiatives for climate research, and fostered the development of AI-based tools for agricultural digitization. Kommy's academic roles included Adjunct Assistant Professor at Queen's University and tenure track researcher at Fondazione Bruno Kessler, where research focused on data-driven technology solutions and security systems. Kommy holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science and Information Engineering from the Università di Trento, an M.Tech from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, and a B.Sc. from Addis Ababa University.
