Joel Bird

Joel Bird serves as the Chief Risk Officer at Ambienta SGR S.p.A. since September 2019, focusing on risk management in public markets with responsibilities in portfolio optimization and market risk controls. Prior to this role, Joel led the global investment risk team at Man Group plc, overseeing more than 200 funds. Previous positions include Risk Manager at Nomura, where a comprehensive risk management framework was established for alternative investment funds, and Risk Manager/Trader at Centaurus Capital. Early career experience includes working as an Associate Director of Credit Risk Analytics at Barclays Capital, where derivative credit risk methodologies were developed. Academic qualifications include a PhD in Quantitative Finance from Imperial College London, alongside an MSc in Operational Research and a BSc in Mathematics from the University of Southampton.
