Juan Carlos Izpisua Belmonte, Ph.D. is a Professor and Chair in the Gene Expression Laboratories at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies in La Jolla, California. He is an expert in stem cell biology and innovator in regenerative medicine including in blastocyst complementation. His work has been recognized with awards and honors including the 2016 National Institutes of Health Director’s Pioneer Award, the William Clinton Presidential Award, and the Pew Scholar Award, the Gold Medal of the Junta Castilla-La Mancha and the and the Roger Guillemin Endowed Nobel Chair.
Juan Carlos holds MSc. in pharmacology from the University of Valencia, Spain and a PhD in Biochemistry and Pharmacology at the University of Bologna, Italy. He completed postdoctoral fellowships at the European Molecular Biology Laboratories (EMBL), Germany and at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) in the United States.
