Carla C. Chavarria, CBP, CCP, PHR, is senior vice president, human resources for AMC Entertainment Inc. (AMC), where she is responsible for all aspects of human resources including recruitment, diversity, training, organizational development, talent development, compensation & benefits, payroll, recognition, and community relations. Chavarria began her AMC career in 1988 as a theatre manager in Philadelphia, and six years later joined the company’s human resources department as a coordinator based in California. By 1997 she had been promoted to human resources manager, and in 1999, she joined AMC’s employment practices division at the company’s headquarters in Kansas City, Missouri as manager. In 2002, Chavarria was named director, employment practices and served in this capacity until being named vice president, recruitment and development in 2005. Her area of responsibility changed again in 2006 to include human resources services and systems. Chavarria serves as co-chair for the AMC Cares Invitational and is a member of the AMC Investment Committee. She is currently a board member for the Quality Hill Playhouse and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kansas City. She was a board member at large for the Kansas City Compensation and Benefits Association in 2008 and a steering committee member of Speaking of Women’s Health for Shawnee Mission Medical Center. She also participates in various national industry-related organizations including the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and WorldatWork. Chavarria earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from The Pennsylvania State University.
